5.7 and 6.7 Aidan in Rehab talks about his drug use

Hi there,

It’s all about my addictions today!! This blog covers Wednesday and Thursday.

You’ll have read Day1,2,3 l on my rehab story

Day 5 l (.Thursday 6 July) I got down to a numbers discussion and my plan for how to get through my hellish withdraws

Some people have  asked- What bad stuff am I on-what I am on (some people don’t beat around the bush!!)

Valium, as high as 35MG, I came in on 13MG(lot of work done at home) We have moved to 10MG (Day 1) and now 8MG today I’m frightened. I’m sorry I abused this medication,

Tramadol, as high as 400MG, I came in on
300MG(lot of work done at home, I was on certain days 150,200MG)
We moved to 150MG (Day 1) and now 100MG today. This scares me. This is serious Codeine. I’m sorry I abused this medication.

Tylex, 30mg/500MG . The 30MG is Codeine. The 500MG is Paracetamol. 8 a day.. It was 8 a day. It is 8 a day. I’m sorry I abused this medication.

I have a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain Syndrome. I put up with pain and saw someone new as 2014 turned into 2015. I reported this individual to the Irish Medical Council (I cant discuss any more)

I wasn’t a saint after I got hooked from this Doctor as I subsequently was involved in heavy “Doctor Shopping”

My Psych studies teach me..

Anxiety and Agitation
Runny nose, teary eyes
Hot and cold sweats, goose bumps
Excessive yawning
Muscle aches and pains
Abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)

Heres what I remenber from studying psych about Codeine
Codeine is an opiate that is used to relieve moderate to severe pain and to manage coughs and diarrhea.

Codeine-containing cough syrup is commonly abused in formulations containing Promethazine, which projects euphoria, relaxation, and sedation when consumed in higher-than-prescribed quantities.

Codeine is one of the most easily prescribed medicines, which makes it one of the most abused.

Promethazine-codeine cough syrup has high cases of fatalities due to its effect on the central nervous system, the heart, and combining the syrup with alcohol, as is common, greatly increases the risk of fatalities.

Codeine has a half-life of around 2.9 hours, which makes it considerably shorter to taper. However, the length of the taper will depend on other factors such as your metabolic rate, dosage, and duration on the drug.

An effective taper plan for codeine will involve a 20-50% reduction rate per week while making sure to check for any withdrawal symptoms that might make the plan not too feasible !

Heres what I remenber about studying “Mothers little helper (Yes, it was called that by Doctors…..)
Valium may be prescribed to treat the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal known as “delirium tremens.”

Additionally, the drug can treat muscle spasms from injury, inflammation, or nerve disorders.

Doctors sometimes prescribe Valium along with other medications to treat convulsions or seizures.
Valium belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines, which work by increasing the effects of GABA, a neurotransmitter that moderates the activity of nerve signals in the brain.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (USA) approved diazepam in the 1960’s under the brand name Valium for the Roche drug company.

Benzodiazepines are widely prescribed drugs: According to reports in The New York Times and elsewhere, U.S. doctors issued more than 50 million prescriptions for Valium each year during the 1970s, when it was America’s most popular prescribed drug. (My study was America primarily)

Abuse of benzodiazepines, especially in combination with opiate painkillers, has become increasingly common in recent years. Look at me..

Valium has a high potential for abuse.
Because these drugs can increase the effects of prescription painkillers such as opioids, some people abuse benzodiazepines along with opioids for the relaxed, euphoric “high” this combination offers.

Cocaine addicts can use benzodiazepines to relieve uncomfortable side effects, like irritability and agitation.

Abuse of benzodiazepines also includes using them to boost the effects of alcohol and ease the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

People who abuse benzodiazepines often refer to the drugs by their street names, including “benzos,” “downers,” “nerve pills,” and “tranks.”

Valium can be habit-forming. If you take it for a long time, your body will build up tolerance (a resistance to the drug’s effects).

Why Tapering?

Tapering is one of the most effective ways of getting off an opiate. Studies have shown that people who use tapering for an opiate addiction are less likely to experience a relapse than those who opt to go “cold turkey”. Additionally, tapering enables the user to solve an addiction problem without experiencing the nasty withdrawal symptoms associated without an abrupt stop to daily doses.

In general, tapering, for many opiates is largely dependent on an individual’s metabolic characteristics, dosage, the duration of use, the drug’s half-life, and their psychological preparation for the taper.

It is also important to remember that dose adjustments during a taper should be made according to one’s physical and mental response to reduced drug doses in order to ensure the least amount of withdrawal symptoms during the taper.

I am going to be quite unwell tapering.
All support appreciated. I may be here to 4 Aug 4 weeks Friday, I’m told. This is worrying..
